Recent Changes to the Unclaimed Property Law

During the 2003 Kentucky General Assembly, there were a number of changes made to Kentucky’s unclaimed property laws.  These changes took effect on July 1, 2003, and will govern your reporting for 2004.  For reports due November 1, 2004:

·          Unclaimed wages or salaries of fifty dollars ($50) or less are exempt from being reported as unclaimed property.

·          Dormancy periods have been reduced from seven (7) years to
three (3) years for all reporters except banks and other financial institutions.

All holders of unclaimed property are asked to report their unclaimed property report information to our office on diskettes set up in the NAUPA format.  You can download this format from the Wagers and Associates website, www.wagers.net.
